Suppress Wild Fire
The target group is any person who may be required to conduct fire fighting operations by suppressing a wildfire and is often undertaken without direct supervision utilising firefighting media/equipment. Note: for the purposes of student selection Protector Alsafe Training & Services does not select individuals but relies on the client / employer to assess the suitability of their employees to attend this training in accordance with Protector Alsafe pre-entry requirements.
PUAFIR204B Respond to wildfire
The suppression of wildfires requires a team approach from the time a fire is reported, until it is made safe. It requires accurate reception of reported information, careful preparation and travel to the fire location, application of safe and appropriate fire control strategies, and timely recovery and maintenance of equipment in readiness for further deployment.
The objectives and outcomes of this unit are:
- Receiving and reporting of wildfire details
- Responding and proceeding to fire, location & access
- Maintaining health and safety of self, other workers and people in the wildfire area
- Anticipating and reacting to changing wildfire and weather behaviour
- Undertaking dry wildfire control activity with the use of extinguishing media
- Completing mop-up and patrol
- Reading maps and navigation
Unit of Competency
PUAFIR303B Suppress wildfire
Assessment for this unit of competency will be by simulation of work place practices. Assessment will occur over a range of situations. Assessment will be conducted through actual demonstration of competencies and written and oral testing of underpinning knowledge.
Training will be delivered utilising theory and practical activities. Simulation will be based on actual conditions and will include walk throughs of the relevant competency components. Delivery will include Trainer led presentations / scenarios.
